The Long Beach Utilities Commission has approved the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 25) budget on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Click here to read the full press release.
Over the course of two months, Long Beach residents and businesses were invited to provide input at three public workshops hosted by the Long Beach Board of Utilities Commissioners:

All workshops were held at 9 a.m. at the Long Beach Utilities Administration Building, 1800 E. Wardlow Road.
The budget, inclusive of proposed rates, was adopted by the Board of Utilities Commissioners at the final public workshop on Thursday, June 6. Budget workshops included in-depth discussions about proposed improvements to the water, gas, and sewer systems, including pipeline replacements and water quality enhancements.
Proposition 218
In November 1996, California voters approved Proposition 218, amending the California Constitution as it relates to local governments, fees and charges, including for water and sewer. Pursuant to Proposition 218, the Long Beach Utilities Department will hold a public hearing on August 19, 2024, to consider public protest on proposed increases to the City’s water and sewer rates. If adopted, the proposed rates become effective October 1, 2024. Hearing information will be mailed to all water and sewer account owners and posted online at least 45 days prior to the hearing date.
City of Long Beach water and/or sewer account owners may protest the proposed changes via written or verbal protest. To qualify, protests must be received by the close of the public hearing.
