Long Beach, CA – On June 6, 2024, the Board of Utilities Commissioners adopted a $378 million budget to fund the Long Beach Utilities Department for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 25). The large majority of the adopted budget funds water and gas purchases to support Long Beach families and businesses. The budget also invests in utilities-oriented maintenance and infrastructure improvements for a climate resilient future while continuing to focus on excellent customer service. The Utilities’ FY 25 budget encompasses a $180 million Water Fund, $165 million Gas Fund, and $33 million Sewer Fund supporting infrastructure, maintenance, and services from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025.
“I’m proud to announce the approved FY 25 budget continues to fund safe and reliable utility service at an affordable rate for our community,” says Vice President Gina Maguire. “We are committed to maintaining excellent customer service and a strong capital improvement program while planning for the future.”
The average single-family resident can expect an increase of $9.00 per month on their water, gas, and sewer utility bill. While the approved budget includes rate adjustments on par with industry-wide cost increases and pipeline infrastructure improvements, the average residential Long Beach water, gas, and sewer utility bill will remain comparatively less than that of other large California cities.
Long Beach Utilities held three separate community budget workshops in-person on May 2, May 16, and June 6. The Department will host the required Proposition 218 hearing to consider protests to proposed water and sewer rate increases on August 19, 2024. Hearing information will be mailed to all water and sewer account owners and posted online at least 45 days prior to the hearing date.
