Natural Gas Pipeline Inspections

Your safety is our top priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas system, Long Beach Utilities technicians regularly perform various natural gas inspection surveys for residential gas pipelines and meters at no cost. These surveys are a proactive safety measure designed to ensure the integrity of our natural gas system by identifying any risks to the pipeline, such as corrosion, gas leaks, and crossbores

By conducting these regular inspections/surveys, Long Beach Utilities Department helps ensure:

  • The long-term integrity of your gas service;
  • Early detection of potential issues before they become hazards; and
  • Compliance with federal and state safety regulations (49 CFR 192.481

Please note: these inspections/surveys may require accessing the outside of your home such as your front yard, side yard, and/or backyard to conduct a full inspection/survey of the natural gas pipeline and meter (LBMC 15.40.190). At no point will this involve entering a home. All Long Beach Utilities technicians are required to carry work identification and may provide supervisor contact information upon request.
