About the Native Plant Parkway Program

The Native Plant Parkway Program (NPP) was created to provide you with the resources and materials to transform the turf in your parkway (the area between the sidewalk and street) to a native landscape - at no cost! If you are looking to complete a small, low to no-cost landscape project with curb appeal, NPP is the program for you.

Long Beach Utilities developed NPP to increase native plant biodiversity throughout the city, reduce wasteful water runoff and create healthier communities. In collaboration with the California Native Plant Society, Long Beach Utilities is offering a solution with NPP to transform your parkway with our most climate friendly plant palettes and materials.

The Benefits in Participating in the NPP Program

Support Local Environment: The California native plants chosen are uniquely adapted to thrive in our Long Beach climate.
Support Local wildlife: Native plants will provide habitats for local birds and insects.
Conserve Water: By installing a lower maintenance landscape, you will be protecting our resources for a better future.
Reduce Pollution: With the less water needed to maintain such a beautiful garden, there will be less runoff and wastewater pollution.
